Troy Davis's Nephew Fundraising for His Sophomore Year at Morehouse
As a young boy, Antone De'Juan Davis Correia spent years gaining support for his uncle Troy Davis, a convicted Georgia man who was ultimately executed in September 2011 despite his claims of innocence. His mother, Martina Correia, died of cancer less than three months later.
Now, to keep his promise to his late uncle and mother, the young man — who goes by De’Juan — has launched a new Indiegogo campaign to gain support for continuing his education. De’Juan indicated that the funds raised would go toward tuition for his sophomore year at Morehouse College.
"With your continuous help, I can continue to be a light in a dark tunnel for kids who do not have a direct path for what they want to do in life,” said the engineering and physics major in a video. "It has been a blessing and I only hope to continue to impact others through school and also through my education.”
The campaign has already surpassed its goal of $5,000, but according to the campaign description, “the real need far exceeds that amount."
