Vybz Kartel Says He’s Focusing on Health After Release from Prison

The Jamaican musical icon was arrested in 2011 for the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams.

Vybz Kartel is embracing his newfound freedom by making health his top priority.

In an interview with Fox 5, the 48-year-old artist, born Adidja Azim Palmer, opened up about his future plans. “Healthwise, you know, I’m working on my health right now, but the feeling of just being free is just an amazing feeling,” he shared.

“I could be better, but I’m super upbeat,” he continued, revealing that he's already purchased a bike and a treadmill. “I’ve hit the ground running,” the “Fever” artist added with a smile.

Kartel also disclosed that he had been battling Graves' Disease, an autoimmune disorder, during his time in prison. This condition leads to an overproduction of thyroid hormones, causing hyperthyroidism and accelerating various bodily functions. His lawyer, Isat Buchanan, highlighted this issue in June.

The Jamaican music legend was released from prison on July 31 after spending over a decade behind bars for the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams, whose remains were never found. He was arrested in 2011 and sentenced to life in prison. Throughout the years, the “Summer Time” artist has consistently maintained his innocence and continued to seek to overturn his conviction.

In a crucial ruling, the Privy Council found that including the compromised juror was "fatal to the safety of the convictions which followed" and breached the defendants' right to a fair trial. This decision highlighted the seriousness of the issue and questioned the fairness of the original trial.
