Eazy E's Daughter Reacts to Straight Outta Compton
Straight Outta Compton is getting rave reviews from critics, fans and even one very important person: the daughter of the only N.W.A member not around to see the film, Eazy-E.
Speaking to NBC News, Eazy's daughter E.B. Wright says actor Jason Mitchell, who played her dad, "did a phenomenal job. I'm so incredibly proud. All my life I've been hearing these stories. Jason is everything I imagined [my father] to be … I really felt like I was watching him on the screen."
Wright was only four when Eazy died in 1995, but has fond and distinct memories of her dad, including his work ethic and his playful, loving nature — both qualities that are explored in depth in Straight Outta Compton.
She's now following in his footsteps with the single "What I Wanna Do," and is making her own movie, a documentary called A Ruthless Scandal, about her father and the vultures that surrounded his estate after his death. She says it will fill in the gaps the film left out.
Straight Outta Compton debuted this weekend at some 2,757 theatres with $56.1 million in ticket sales, reports Variety. It's the biggest R-rated August opening since American Pie 2, and according to Taraji P. Henson, Oscar-worthy.
