On Tuesday (Mar. 10), the video streaming platform published a music playlist with over 81 tracks to highlight “women who are rising in the ranks of hip hop.” YouTube chose a photo of Doja for the cover image of the soundtrack. In the photo, the “Juicy” rapper is donning a platinum blonde wig along with a matching hot pink bra and baby pink headset.

However, the photo sparked speculation among fans concerning her complexion. Doja appeared to be a few significant shades lighter than how fans are used to seeing her. The comment section under the playlist was soon flooded with speculation that the 24-year-old was bleaching her skin to appear fairer. Others simply chalked it up to the fact the image had more than likely been altered, and therefore, Doja’s appearance had been whitewashed.

Doja caught wind of the allegations herself and took to her Instagram Stories to clear up confusion about the image. She also denied accusations that she was altering her the color of skin. 

“So, if you’re stupid as f**k, you probably left a comment under this picture talking about this,” Doja said over a video of herself scrolling through some of the remarks that had been left under the playlist. “Hey, how about I’m half white, not entirely Black?” she posed. “My skin gets very light when I don’t tan. I was staying in doors a lot before that shoot. New f***ing subject. Dumba**es.”
