5 Revelations You Might Have Missed During Meghan Markle’s Bombshell CBS Interview With Oprah Winfrey
Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, sat down with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday (March 7) for an exclusive interview to set the record straight on tabloid rumors and their relationship with other members of the British royal family.
The Duchess of Sussex, Markle’s formal title, said she was treated unfairly by many British media outlets from the start — a lot of it with racist overtones about Markle, whose mother is Black and father is white.
In 2020, the couple, who now live in Southern California, announced the shocking news that they would step down from their roles as senior royals, citing British media intrusions into their personal lives and its racist attitudes toward Meghan.
The couple dropped plenty of bombshells during the sit-down, but here are five you may have overlooked.
Kate Middleton Made Meghan Cry
There were reports that Meghan left Harry’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, in tears leading up to Meghan and Harry’s wedding over a disagreement about bridesmaid dresses. "The reverse happened," Meghan told Oprah. She continued: "And I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing." Meghan confirmed that there was a problem surrounding the bridesmaid dresses. "It made me cry. It really hurt my feelings," the Duchess of Sussex said.
Suicide Was A ‘Constant Thought’
Meghan admitted that she had thoughts of harming herself over the tremendous pressure she was under while living as a royal. "I was ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry. But I knew that if I didn't say it — then I would do it," she said. "I just didn't want to be alive anymore." She continued, "That was clear and real and frightening and constant thought."
The Queen Gets A Pass From Meghan
The couple had only nice things to say about Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
Meghan recalled fondly the first time she met the queen and went on about how much the monarch reminds her of her own grandmother.
“The queen has always been wonderful to me,” Meghan said. “I’ve loved being in her company.”

Her Passport Was Confiscated After The Wedding
Meghan revealed that she felt trapped while serving as a senior royal and didn’t have her passport, driver’s license or keys. "When I joined that family, that was the last time -- until we came here -- that I saw my passport, my driver's license, my keys. All that gets turned over. I didn't see any of that anymore," she told Oprah Winfrey.
There’s No ‘Royal Training School’
The duchess received “no guidance” on how to be a royal but was expected to do everything right. “There were certain things you couldn’t do, but (unlike the movies) there was no class on how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to be royal,” she said. Meghan admitted that she didn’t even know the British national anthem. “That was me Googling late at night … we were doing the training behind the scenes because I wanted to make them proud,” she added.
