Azealia Banks is calling it quits — from hip hop. After fitful beginnings to her career as an emcee, the buzzworthy artist from Harlem says she wishes to disassociate herself from the rap game and from now on wants to be known as a "vocalist." Banks, who recently parted ways with manager Troy Carter, also quit Twitter, deleting her account over the weekend after a series of tweets in which she elaborated on the career 180.
"no longer wishing to be a rapper. i never was…. and as soon as i started paying attention to bulls--t urban media, i started getting myself in trouble," Banks wrote, according to HipHopDX's account of the deleted tweets. "From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game”… or whatever the f--k that means."
After emerging late last year with her viral hit "212," Banks quickly became mired in a string of beefs with other rappers, including T.I., Lil Kim and fellow female newcomer Iggy Azalea. On Twitter, Banks frequently lashed out at her targets with abandon, calling T.I. a "f--king clown," accusing Kim of using ghost writers and dissing Azalea as a no-talent racist.
Before deleting her account, Banks acknowledged that Twitter had been a negative influence and said her fans should follow her on Tumblr instead.
"no more twitter for me… it makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting," she wrote.
In some of her last tweets, Azealia appeared to take shots at former manager (and current Lady Gaga manager) Troy Carter, accusing him of contributing to her troubles by planting false stories in the media.

"I know who you are yes...You short bald man...I know you planted these false stories," she wrote of Carter. "Guess what?: I'm still not going to let you manage me again. I've dealt with enough cyber bullying to see right thru [sic] this."

The 21-year-old artist recently released her debut EP 1991 and is working on a full-length album titled Broke with Expensive Taste expected later this year from Interscope.
