Kendrick Lamar's 'Untitled Unmastered' Album Just Hit A Mark
It’s only been 10 days since Kendrick Lamar released his surprise untitled unmastered album, but the project is already receiving accolades.
Sales are going so well that it topped the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in its first week making it the Compton native’s second album to do so after To Pimp A Butterfly went number 1 last year.
Kendrick did fall short of the numbers he did on TPAB during its first week (142,000 sold compared to 360,000) but it’s to be expected since the album had no prior promotion, no built up anticipation and weren’t all songs not previously heard in some capacity. It did however outsell Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’ collaborative ColleGrove album, which was also released on the same day.
TDE’s Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith recently laid out the plans for his label’s LP release schedule. ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Isiaah Rashad and SZA are all supposedly slated to drop albums in 2016. The waiting game is on.
