Cynthia Bailey Reveals Why She Left ‘Real Housewives Of Atlanta’

She was on the reality show for 11 seasons.

Cynthia Bailey announced last month she is leaving Real Housewives of Atlanta. Now she is revealing more details on why she left the iconic series -- she wanted to protect her marriage.

Bailey told Page Six, “After going through my divorce with my ex [Peter Thomas], I’m very protective of my second marriage because, you know, I really want it to work, and I want to do everything that I can to protect it and to protect Mike.”

Bailey also said the reality series is  “a little bit of a slippery slope” at times and not always “the most positive atmosphere” to bring your family.

As for her first marriage to Peter Thomas, which ended in divorce in 2017 “Honestly, whether we were on the show or not, I don’t think it would have worked out now. Now, let be very clear, I don’t think being on the show helps your relationship. But if your relationship is not solid or there’s issues you guys are dealing with, those issues are going to play out, whether you own the show or not. So that’s just what it is.”

Back on Sept. 27, the 54-year-old posted on Instagram, “After much thought and consideration, I have made the very difficult and heartfelt decision not to return for the next season of Real Housewives of Atlanta,” captioned Bailey under a picture of herself. “Thank you to my Real Housewives of Atlanta castmates for eleven of the most unbelievable years of my life; and the most incredible & UNFORGETTABLE memories!”

Bailey then relayed her excitement over what’s next for her and her career.

“I am so grateful to have had this amazing journey, and I am anxiously waiting to embark on new adventures,” she continued.

“Most importantly, THANK YOU to my fans! I could not have done it without your blessings, love, and support. Without the fans, none of this would be possible. I love and appreciate all of you.”

Bailey added: “It’s time to move on to my next chapter, and I look forward to sharing it with all of you.”

Bailey will appear on Real Housewives’ spinoff, Ultimate Girls Trip, which was filmed in Turks and Caicos and set to air via Peacock later this year. The show will feature fellow RHOA star Kenya Moore, Kyle Richards from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga of Real Housewives of New Jersey, and Luann de Lesseps and Ramona Singer from Real Housewives of New York.
