Big Sean Explains Why He Hasn't Married Jhené Aiko
Big Sean isn’t ready to walk down the aisle with his long-time, on-again, off-again girlfriend, Jhené Aiko.
During his candid chat on the "Out of Context" podcast with Charlamagne Tha God, which aired on Friday (August 2), the Detroit rapper addressed the topic after Charlamagne asked why he and Aiko haven’t tied the knot and if there might be a “secret industry marriage” at play.
"No, no, there has not been a secret industry marriage," Sean clarified around the 1:05:00-minute mark. “It's a little personal, you know what I mean? But just like to be real with you, just like any people who have dealt with love, we've had our ups and downs, you know what I'm saying? And I think it's still finding the right navigation through it all.”
For the 36-year-old artist, "marriage symbolizes the best relationship," and he believes "having a relationship is first and foremost."
He continued, “I feel like a lot of people get the idea of like, 'Oh, you have to get married,' but then it's like, to me, that's almost a fear-based way of thinking, too. Because then people be getting divorced. The divorce rate’s so f—king high.”
Without spilling too much personal detail, Sean made it clear that while marriage is still a possibility, “I feel I can only speak for myself that there needs to be more work done so we could keep going.”
Sean and Jhené first got together in 2016, shortly after she divorced producer Polo da Genius. They welcomed their son, Noah, in November 2022. Jhené is also the mother of 15-year-old Namiko, whom she shares with singer O’Ryan.
