Lil Wayne Almost Wanted to Be a 'Christian Rapper'
Lil Wayne dropped his first book, Gone 'Til November: A Journal of Rikers Island, yesterday (October 11) and as fans digest the stories he chose to share, the fact that he once wanted to be a "Christian rapper" is one that is sticking out.
While he was locked up, the rapper shares that his time inside allowed him to explore his inner demons and without having women or drugs as a distraction, he was able to find a new clarity.
While discussing his newfound spirituality, Weezy was once considering forging a new path as a Christian rapper.
In his book, Lil Wayne shares an anecdote about a church writing him while he was in prison, urging him to consider changing the content of his music to be more faith-focused.
"I would truly have the power of having pop culture turn to God," he writes. "I would have straight killers in church every Sunday."
While he was considering switching gears and creating Christian hip-hop, he decided that his faith would find its way into his music organically and that he took the moment to be an epiphany, integral to his journey as an evolving artist and human being.
