Max B Loses Appeal Bid
It looks like former Dip Set associate Max B has caught a tough break — the Harlem rapper's appeal to get out of prison after being incarcerated for a botched robbery-turned-homicide has been denied. Now he's facing 30 more years behind bars.
B, neé Charly Wingate, was first arrested in 2007 after being accused of ordering his ex-girlfriend and stepbrother to rob a man. The victim ended up executed with a gunshot wound to the head. In 2009, Max B was found guilty of 9 of 11 charges, including murder, robbery and kidnapping. He first filed for appeal last year.
The melodic rapper, a former member of Jim Jones' ByrdGang crew, was a close friend and collaborator of Bronx rhyme-slinger French Montana. In 2009, B and Montana released the collaborative mixtape Coke Wave. Though B's legal troubles put the breaks on his career, Montana's star continued to rise. Last year, he signed to Bad Boy Records after a much-publicized bidding war, and he was recently named to XXL magazine's exclusive Freshman Class of 2012.
