Robin Thicke Admits Drug Addiction
While Pharrell Williams was creating “Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke was too inebriated to fully participate, the singer admits in a taped disposition.
According to TMZ, Thicke shared his substance abuse issues as a defense in the “Blurred Lines” countersuit brought on by Marvin Gaye’s children. The family says the multi-platinum single is a knockoff of Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up."
Thicke contends that he was “high on Vicodin and alcohol” when he “showed up at the studio” and that Williams is responsible for creating much of the track. "The reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song," he told the lawyer during a deposition.
Last week Gaye’s family filed new legal documents providing audio proof that "Blurred Lines" is a knockoff of the late soul legend’s song. The music adds to evidence provided by a GQ magazine story where Thicke talked about Gaye's influence.
That magazine admission was another tipsy moment, Thicke said. "With all due respect. I was high and drunk every time I did an interview last year."
Very high, in fact. "Every day, I woke up, I would take a Vicodin to start the day and then I would fill up a water bottle with vodka and drink it before and during my interviews," said Thicke.
He’s now two months sober from the prescription drug (but not alcohol) and owes it all to Paula Patton. "When your wife leaves you, it gives you a reason to sober up.”
Despite numerous attempts at forgiveness, he and his wife haven’t reconciled.
