Recently, we had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with Campbell to talk about what it takes to keep a healthy friendship alive in the age of social media, along with how she manages self-care after hosting a huge ceremony like the 2021 Soul Train Awards. Find out what the multi-talented star had to say.

On Maintaining Their Friendship

“We've been maintaining our friendship through text, social media, and voice messages because we like to hear each other's voices.

“It's been a really busy year for both of us. Tichina has been such a great friend and she understood that this hustle is real. We're both single mothers, so there are times where we may not even see each other because we're so busy, but we always pick up right where we left off. It's pretty awesome,” Campbell noted.

On Preparing For The Soul Train Awards

“Other than praying, we just worked really hard to put the show together. Most people don't realize that we produced the show with Jeannae Rouzan-Clay from Jesse Collins Entertainment. We worked really hard to create a great show,” Campbell said.

On Her Favorite Pre-Show Highlight

“I think one of the highlights for me was when I finally got to see my friend, who’s been working on the West Coast. We produced the show via Zooms, phones, and texts, but we worked our behinds off to make sure that we put together a really good show,” she said.

On The Night Of The Show

“The behind-the-scenes is pretty hectic and things may run late. We had run so far behind making sure that our artists were okay that I almost didn't even make the red carpet. There's always something that you have to navigate around. But we’re professional, so we worked it out and made it happen,” said Campbell.

On Self-Care After The Soul Train Awards

“What does that mean self-care? I don't even know what that means. I would love to get a massage or just sleep. I did sleep for like four hours after, but I had to go right back to work,” Campbell said.
