Woman Pulls Out Gun on Man Who Asked Her for a Light for His Cigarette
Ridiculous or justified? A 67-year-old white woman was arrested for pulling out a gun and pointing it at an African-American man who had asked her if she had a light for his cigarette. Sherry McLain, the woman charged for the crime, said she was defending herself.
"It scared me absolutely to death," said McLain, who was in the parking lot of a Walmart in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, when the man approached her. However, the man said he was shocked when he saw the weapon and ran back to the store and called 911, according to News Channel 5.
McLain was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, but she contends that she was in the right. McLain does have a license to carry, but a witness from that day questions why she still has a weapon.
"Clearly this is a gunowner who doesn't need to own a gun," said Keeley Benoit to News Channel 5.
