Given his part in two monster singles, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," 2013 has been a big year for Pharrell Williams, and the staff at GQ knows it.

Skateboard P has landed the "Hitmaker of the Year" title in the magazine's latest edition of its "Men of the Year" issue.

"Both songs are for people who need a break," Williams told GQ about why the tracks resonated with listeners. "There's a lot of f---ed-up travesty in the world. Sometimes you just need a Hallmark card. Sometimes you just need to shake your a--."

Williams is featured in the same issue as Kendrick Lamar, who was named "Rapper of the Year" and wound up on the cover. However, the recognition wasn't well received by K. Dot's Top Dawg Entertainment label boss, Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, who blasted the accompanying article as "disrespectful" with "racial undertones." Tiffith also canceled Lamar's performance at the issue release party.

GQ magazine editor-in-chief Jim Nelson denies any ill will. "I encourage anyone interested to read the story and see for themselves," he said.

As for Williams, the "Hitmaker of the Year" stamp is his second GQ honor in the last few months. The 40-year-old newlywed was named "Performer of the Year" in the publication's UK edition.
