Aretha Franklin's Childhood Home Has Sold
The childhood home of the Queen of Soul will soon be occupied by a new family.
TMZ reports that the house where Aretha Franklin once lived sold for $355,000 after being listed in May for $379,900.
The Detroit home features six bedrooms, five baths with 6,000 square feet of living space and a solid brick foundation. The home also has several fireplaces and reportedly has a lovely interior.
The Detroit News reports that the home's listing read: “Renovations have been started, but there is still enough room to add your personal touch,” reads the Realcomp listing description of the home. "Revive this 3 story home to glory. Original hardwood floors and Pewabic tile throughout. Carriage house has the capacity to hold 4 vehicles with a 1 bedroom unit upstairs. Original brick fireplaces throughout the home. The kitchen and bathroom have been updated. Plumbing, electrical, and AC, is newer installed."
According to the report, the new owners aren't famous- just a regular family who will soon make the house a home.
Franklin lived in the house from the age of 5 to 18.
In an interview on CBS This Morning, Franklin recounted living in the house she shared with her famous father, Rev. C.L. Franklin—a park near the home is dedicated to his memory.
“The house needs a lot of work. Some rooms have been completed. The owners were going room by room,” realtor Brittany Randall told The Detroit News. “I would like to keep up with the glory of the block."
