Kamala Harris Kicks Off 2024 Campaign with First Official Ad
Vice President Kamala Harris and her campaign have unveiled their inaugural ad for the 2024 presidential election.
The ad, narrated by Harris, begins with visuals of the 59-year-old smiling behind a podium, alongside the words "Kamala," "Harris," and an image of the American flag. “In this election, we each face a question: What kind of country do we want to live in?” Harris asks at the start.
“There are some who think we should be a country of chaos, fear, and hate,” she continues, with images of [Donald] Trump and JD Vance. “But us, we choose something different. We choose freedom” The voiceover then pauses as a crowd chants, “Kamala! Kamala! Kamala!”
Harris continues: “The freedom not just to get by, but to get ahead. The freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to make decisions about your own body. We choose a future where no child lives in poverty. Where we can all afford healthcare. Where no one is above the law. We believe in the promise of America and we’re ready to fight for it because when we fight, we win.”
The ad ends with the VP saying, ”So join us. Go to Kamalaharris.com and let’s get to work.”
The video comes just days after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race and endorsed his current Vice President for the Democratic nomination. Harris is already on track to earning the nomination after securing enough delegate support and a historic $81 million in donations.
On Monday, (July 22) Harris made her first public appearance since announcing her run for president. She attended an event on the South Lawn of the White House, honoring National Collegiate Athletic Association championship teams from the 2023–24 season. Harris spoke in place of the president, who is recovering from COVID-19.
