D'Angelo Delivers Surprise Performance at Bonnaroo

D'Angelo takes the stage for the first time in the U.S. in more than a decade.

D'Angelo is well on his way to staging his comeback. After getting his feet wet in a few shows overseas, the "Brown Sugar" singer finally made his first performance in the States, in more than a decade, over the weekend at the Bonnaroo music festival reports MTV.com.

Questlove of The Roots brought out D'Angelo on Saturday night (June 9) shortly after midnight for a set that was billed as "Questlove and very special guests." 
"I've been waiting 12 years to say this: Ladies and gentleman, D'Angelo!," ?uest said, introducing his longtime friend to the stage. 
Performing for more than an hour, D'Angelo delivered his rendition of classics like Jimi Hendrix's "Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)," The Beatles' "She Came Through the Bathroom Window" and Led Zeppelin's "What Is and What Should Never Be." He will perform next at Essence Festival in New Orleans in July.
As previously reported, D'Angelo discussed his reasons for coming back to music in a recent story for GQ magazine. During the interview, he cites Questlove, his former tour band member, as one of his main inspirations for returning to music.
His third album is set for release some time this year.
