Dr. Dre Releases Music Video for “I Need a Doctor”
The year was 2003 when Dr. Dre began working on his Detox album, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed and highly successful "Chronic 2001." Anticipation for the release, then set for 2004, was extremely high, and word was that Dr. Dre was about to drop another classic.
Fast-forward to 2011, and Detox is back on the schedule for an April 1 release. The album has been put off so many times that its existence seems to be somewhat of folklore. But this week's release of the music video for "I Need a Doctor," featuring his protégé Eminem, has once again raised the stakes for Dr. Dre, as he prepares to drop his final album.
Earlier this month, Dr. Dre made a special appearance during Eminem's performance of the song at the Grammys. Plus, there have been a number of credible rappers who have spoken about ghostwriting for Detox, and late last year, producer Alex Da Kid revealed that he had worked on (ahem, produced) the second single, "I Need a Doctor." Dre also said that Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Akon, Jay-Z, La Roux, Game, Slim da Mobster, and Liz Rodriguez were the album's guest artists. More recently, Lil' Kim has talked about being featured on Detox. With an actual visual of "I Need a Doctor," it's starting to look like Detox will soon come after all.
