Jada Pinkett Smith's been in a mood to talk lately, first spilling details about her marriage to husband Will Smith, why she wasn't the lead in The Matrix, and now, giving us the inside scoop on her friendship with Tupac.
Speaking with Howard Stern on his Sirius XM show, Smith said Tupac, who she met in high school, was "a revolutionary without a revolution," and that their relationship was always purely platonic.
"You know, it's so funny. Now being older, I have more of an understanding of what that was between us," she said. "When you have two young people that have very strong feelings, but there was no physical chemistry between us at all, and it wasn't even just for me! It was him too. There was a time when I was like, 'Just kiss me! Let's just see how this goes.' When I tell you it had to be the most disgusting kiss for us both."
Smith says anything romantic between her and the rapper was never in the cards. "The only way I can put it is that the higher power did not want it at all. If Pac and I had any kind of sexual chemistry, we might have killed each other because we were both so passionate. And you know, we loved deeply," she said. "It was hard enough with us just being friends. It was a volatile relationship."
The Gotham actress also seemed to confirm rumors that she won't be returning to the Fox series season, telling Stern, “[I signed on for one year] because I really felt like Fish was there to be in service for that year, to give Penguin something to do… I love him [Penguin actor Robin Lord Taylor]. I love him. He’s phenomenal, and he’s such a pleasure to work with. I’m going to miss him. I’m going to miss the whole cast. It was such a great team.”
Smith will next be seen in Magic Mike XXL, which hits theaters July 1.
