Bette Midler Tried To Shame Beyoncé Into Voting Out Trump – And Twitter Destroyed Her

"Stop depending on Black Women to save everybody."

While Beyoncé was minding her business on Thursday (Sept. 19), actress Bette Midler randomly tasked her with the responsibility of ordering her legions of fans to "defeat" Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

The Hocus Pocus star made the bold and self-righteous move, taking to Twitter to urge Queen Bey to use her social media pull to get the BeyHive to get him out of office for good.

"Beyoncé has 133 million Instagram followers," she tweeted. "More than double the people who voted for Trump. Wouldn't it be amazing if the #BeyHive mobilized to defeat him? I also wouldn't mind if a regular bee hive f****d his s**t up."

  • Members of the BeyHive were offended by Midler's request, and weren't quiet about it. Dozens of folks — particularly Black women and men — came to the "Formation" singer's defense and chided Midler for her tone-deaf tweet. They all shared the same thought: It is not the job of Black women and men to clean up the mistakes of white America.

"Being that 98 percent of Black women voted against Donald Trump, you should probably hit up Katy Perry or Taylor Swift," journalist Jamele Hill responded. "Stop depending on Black Women to save everybody."

  • Several others came forward echoing Hill's sentiment, particularly pointing out that the majority of Black female voters did not aid in Trump winning the presidency in the first place.

In fact, another Twitter user noted that white women are mostly to blame for the outcome of the election as they failed to show up to the polls to support "their own" — Hillary Clinton.

  • Others stressed that Beyoncé, unlike several of her white female counterparts in music, has used her celebrity and social platforms to encourage her fans to exercise their right to vote. She and her husband, Jay-Z, also famously endorsed Clinton during the 2016 election by throwing a fundraising concert.
