Wayne Brady Reveals He is Pansexual
Wayne Brady is living his truth.
In a candid interview on Monday (August 7), the multihyphenate revealed to PEOPLE that he identifies as pansexual, which is someone that is attracted to another person regardless of their sex or gender. Easing the mood, Brady quipped, “Bisexual — with an open mind!”
Brady– father to Maile, 20, and a new baby that he welcomed in 2021 with ex-wife Mandi Taketa– was inspired to live his authentic self after the death of Robin Williams in 2014. Following Willams' death, Brady became a mental health advocate, forcing him to face his issues head-on. As a result, Brady sought therapy for love addiction due to his history of "looking for myself and happiness in a slew of people."
After doing research, The Let’s Make A Deal host concluded that pansexuality is what spoke to him more. He said, “I came to pansexual because — and I know that I'm completely messing up the dictionary meaning — but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board.”
Brady also admitted to the outlet that although he is attracted to men, he has never dated a man. He explained, “I've always pushed that aside because of how I was raised, and because I live in today's world, and it's scary as s--t.”
Still, questions persisted for him. He shared, “So, what does it mean if I feel something? I don't think I'm gay, but what if I feel something for another [man]... That's still gay. I was already bullied about a bunch of other s--t. I didn't wanna add a top hat on top of that suit.”
Although the 51-year-old has a strong community of LGBTQ+ friends, he “worried about…people finding out” because “nobody needs to know my personal business. The world can absolutely go without knowing that Wayne identifies as pan.” Of this reckoning, he said “it gave me license to still live in the shadows and to be secretive.” From that realization, Brady said he had to “break that behavior.”
Now, as he lives in his truth, the journey continues. “I've got some work to do still. Then, Wayne as a single, open-minded pansexual, can make a decision and be free and open to other people.”
