Kyrie Irving Says He Was Just Trolling Us With Flat Earth Theory

The Celtics point guard said it was an "exploitation tactic."

This past February, when Kyrie Irving was still a member of the Cleveland Cavaliershe drove Twitter insane by saying that he believes the earth is flat.

Now, a member of the Boston Celtics, the All-Star point guard is backtracking and admitting that his flat earth theory "was all an exploitation tactic" to spin the world into a frenzy, which it accomplished. In other words, the 25-year-old was trolling and taking us all for a ride.

"Look, look. Here it is. All I want to do is be able to have that open conversation," said Irving on Boston's 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich during the Celtics media day Monday, as reported by CBS Boston. "It was all an exploitation tactic. It literally spun the world — your guys' world — it spun it into a frenzy and proved exactly what I thought it would do in terms of how all this works."

Irving added, "It created a division, or, literally stand up there and let all these people throw tomatoes at me or have somebody think I’m somehow a different intellectual person because I believe that the earth is flat and you think the world is round. It created exactly that."

He continued, saying, "When I do something, I know my intent and it proved what I thought it would."

And what's that, Kyrie? That everyone is capable of being trolled? When Irving originally voiced his flat earth beliefs, it put him in the crosshairs of pure internet slander — none greater than that from renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who laughed off the point guard's theory and suggested he sticks to basketball.

So, how are Irving's trolled victims taking the news that they fell for Irving's "exploitation tactic?"

Well, they, too, are laughing it off and crediting him with the trolling.

Good one, Kyrie.
