Frank Ocean Displays Star Power on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
It’s been a whirlwind week for R&B star Frank Ocean. On the heels of the revelation that he had a past relationship with a man, the Odd Future crooner aroused even more attention with an intense performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night.
Backed by the the Roots and an 8-piece string section, Ocean stood almost motionless as the lyrics to the soul-bearing ballad "Bad Religion" streamed effortlessly from his heart to our ears.
"I can never make him love me, no, no," Ocean confides on the song that initially stirred speculation about his sexuality. "Taxi driver, I swear I’ve got three lives / Balanced on my head like steak knives / I can’t tell you the truth about my disguise / I can’t trust no one."
With all eyes in the music universe firmly set on him following the breakout performance, Ocean announced that he was unleashing his debut album, Channel Orange, a week early. The striking effort, which features guest performances by Odd Future crony Earl Sweatshirt, Andre 3000, and John Mayer, is now available on iTunes.
The singer-songwriter will ride this wave as he kicks off a sold-out summer tour on July 13. The 15-city run starts in Seattle and ends in Chicago at Lollapalooza on August 4.
