Jayson Tatum Scores Record-Breaking 55 Points In NBA All-Star Game
Jayson Tatum made history on Sunday night (February 19), setting an All-Star Game record in points with 55 for Team Giannis on the way to a 184-175 victory over Team LeBron.
The Boston Celtics guard also won MVP honors for his performance, which saw his team end LeBron James’ hold on All-Star captain supremacy with the win.
Tatum had 27 points in the third quarter, another All-Star Game record for any period. He was the first pick Giannis Antetokounmpo made in the starter’ portion of the All-Star draft.
Team LeBron Won The NBA All-Star Game But The Game’s Highest Award Will Now And Forever Honor Kobe Bryant
Tatum said the MVP award he was given, named for Kobe Bryant, was everything to him.
“It means the world,” he relayed after the game. “You think of all the legends and great players that have played this game, and in all honesty, records are made to be broken. I’ll hold it for as long as I can, but I’m certain someone will come along in a couple years and try to break it.”
Anthony Davis previously held the All-Star Game record of 52 points. Sunday’s loss for LeBron was his first in six times as a captain. Antetokounmpo improved to 1-2 in his All-Star captaincies.
