Young Dolph’s Alleged Killer Faces Major Legal Setback
The two men accused of killing Young Dolph will have separate attorneys.
Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith reportedly appeared in court on Friday (February 11), and while the latter hired an attorney of his choosing, Johnson did not, and has now been appointed a public defender.
According to WHBQ-TV, Smith appeared in court with lawyer Michael Scholl, who said he’s been speaking with Smith’s family for several weeks.
Judge Lee Coffee had given the two men three weeks to hire legal representation in preparation for their murder trial.
“We made our statement this morning by entering a not guilty plea,” said Scholl. Lawyers for both men said they entered not guilty pleas.
Johnson previously told Judge Coffee he couldn’t afford an attorney and initially showed up without one.
He asked the court for more time to allow his family to hire an attorney, which was denied. The judge subsequently appointed attorney Juni Gangulli to represent Johnson.
Both Johnson and Smith will be back in court on March 24.
