Stevie J Arrested, Owes Over $1 Million in Child Support
After allegedly skipping out on child support payments for over a decade, the law has finally caught up with Stevie J. The Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star, whose birth name is Steven Jordan, was arrested in Georgia Monday (June 9) night, for owing over $1 million in child support.
The Grammy-wining producer hasn't paid child support for two of his children, despite earning $27,000 a month, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.
According to his criminal complaint, the children were born in 1997 and 1998 to Stevie J and his ex-girlfriend. In 1999 Stevie J was ordered to shell out approximately $6,600 per month in support before the figure was upped to $8,500. He stopped making payments in 2001, bringing his 13-year total to $1,107,412.
He also failed to make a voluntary payment within the first nine months of 2013, the same year that he earned close to $300,000 from the reality show and royalties.
As of this afternoon, Steive was still awating a court appearance. He is expected to be released from custody in Georgia so that he can face criminal charges in his homestate of New York.
