Ne-Yo decided to forgo the opportunity to play Martin Luther King Jr. in an upcoming film due to body image concerns. The prestigious role required a 30-pound weight gain, which conflicted with the release of the singer's new album, R.E.D. According to Britain’s Sunday Mirror, the R&B star chose to reject the part after putting in months of work to be in shape for his album release.

"They wanted to start shooting at the time my album R.E.D. comes out and wanted me to gain 30 pounds, so I couldn’t do it,” Ne-Yo explained. “I’m kicking myself but acting can’t take the place of my music. Plus I’ve been killing myself in the gym for months preparing for this album because I wanted a complete makeover."

The singer-songwriter has taken roles in films, such as Red Tails and Battle: Los Angeles. However, music is his first priority, no matter how esteemed the acting opportunity might be.

"I definitely want to do more acting, but it’s got to make sense with the music," he said.

Ne-Yo's dedication to music has yet to steer him wrong, garnering him numerous Top 10 hits, including "Sexy Love," "Closer," and "Miss Independent." The chart-topping artist will release his new album in September with a fit body to match.
