Funeral Held In Brooklyn For 12-Year-Old Boy Gunned Down In Parked Car
Family and friends said their goodbyes on Wednesday (April 20) to 12-year-old Kade Lewin who was fatally shot while eating in a parked car in Brooklyn.
According to ABC 7, Lewin was with his cousin Jenna Ellis, 20, and an 8-year-old relative on March 31, when a car drove by and gunfire erupted. The deadly shooting occurred in East Flatbush.
"Kade relished in the simple things," cousin Alisha Barker said. "Like having a cuddle session and movie night with his favorite girl, his mom."
Lewin was struck one time in the head, while his cousin Jenna was hit six times and rushed to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.
"All I'm asking, please come forward, please, please somebody say something," Kade's mother, Suzette Lewin said. "I'm asking for justice for Kade. Please, I'm asking for justice, please."
Mayor of New York, Eric Adams attended the viewing prior to the funeral held at New Life Tabernacle. Other attendees repeatedly chanted Lewin’s name.
"This amazing young girl was just taking care of her young family members, treating them to food," Adams said. "Just had them out enjoying the day, the night, pulled over to watch a movie and to eat the food, and in that instant, lost him, lost Kade. Whose child is next?"
Police believe the shooting to be a case of mistaken identity. No arrests have been made but police say they have a few leads in the case.
To help pay for Ellis’ medical expenses and Lewin’s funeral costs, the family has set up a GoFundMe.
This is an ongoing investigation.
