James Brown receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Jan. 10, 1997.

James Brown, also known as "the Godfather of Soul," received a high honor on Jan. 10, 1997, when he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His star is located at 1501 Vine Street.

Before Brown died on Christmas in 2006 at the age of 73, the singer had a six-decade long career. His work and performance style influenced a long-list of legends who soon came after him. Fela Kuti, Michael Jackson and Prince are a few artists who have been inspired by the late singer.
He has been awarded other top honors for musicians including the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. In a historic moment, BET gave Brown the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, which was presented by Michael Jackson.
