Common Wants to Host Peace Summit With Chief Keef

Rap vet would like to hold talks to end violence in Chicago.

Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club had the G.O.O.D. Music crew in the hot seat this morning, and the team Kanye West built held court on a variety of topics du jour. Celebrating the release of their compilation album Cruel Summer yesterday, Common, Pusha T, Big Sean, Cyhi The Prynce and Teyana Taylor discussed personal projects and more.
In the interview, Common, the resident veteran from Chicago, addressed the drama surrounding Chief Keef and the recent shooting death of teenage rapper Lil JoJo. Common said that if given the opportunity, he would like to have a summit with Keef to help change the climate of violence in Chicago.
"I feel like we just gotta sit 'em down and build with them. Talk to them, get some type of peace thing going," he said. "It's bigger than rap. Kids is dying. I would tell Keef and all of them cats, 'Man we gotta sit down and figure out how we're gonna get to a peace meeting.'"

Common is the latest Windy City rap elder to reach out to the controversial youngster in an attempt to lead him down a more positive path. Lupe Fiasco, who was embroiled in a well-documented misunderstanding with Chief, offered an olive branch of sorts to the 17-year-old upstart last week following their dust up on Twitter.
In between discussing the social issues plaguing his hometown, Common made sure to tout the endearing qualities of the Second City and praised the younger members of the G.O.O.D. family for inspiring him to stay on his toes lyrically. With Cruel Summer on sale now, each of the G.O.O.D. Music members is ready to put out long-gestating solo projects. Pusha T said he was nearly done with his solo debut and that fans can expect it at the "top of the year" 2013.
Big Sean said his own sophomore album would be in stores before the year is out.
"I feel like I'd be a fool not to, with all this momentum," he said.
