An investigation led by former FBI director Robert Mueller deemed that the NFL never saw the hideous Ray Rice elevator footage.

"We found no evidence that anyone at the NFL had or saw the in-elevator video before it was publicly shown, the report said, according to ESPN. “We also found no evidence that a woman at the NFL acknowledged receipt of that video in a voicemail message on April 9, 2014.”

The latter combats an Associated Press report that a law enforcement official showed the AP the video and played a voicemail dated April 9, in which a female voice from the NFL confirms that the league had received the video.

That being said, Mueller’s report did admit that "The NFL should have done more with the information it had, and should have taken additional steps to obtain all available information about the February 15 incident."

Mueller’s report also said the league failed to contact police officers investigating the Atlantic City incident nor did they ask Rice or his attorney if they’d make the footage available.

Rice was originally suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for two games. Once the incriminating February elevator footage of the running back knocking out his then-fiancée, now wife Janay Rice emerged in September, the league suspended him indefinitely. In late November, Rice won his appeal and was reinstated into the NFL, although no franchise has signed him as of yet.
