The recent tragedies caused by Hurricane Harvey in Houston saw many of the city's natives watch their lives dissipate as the torrential rains and floods destroyed everything in its path.
Several well-known celebrities who hail from the culturally rich city have taken to social media to share their thoughts, prayers, personal stories and donations with the inhabitants of the city they hold so dear.
From some of the most influential members of the Houston music scene like Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and Paul Wall to actors and politicians like Phylicia Rashad and Al Green, this city is rich in its contributions to the country's progression on all fronts.

Born and raised in Houston, Beyoncé has always let it be known how much she adores her hometown. Bey called for prayers on behalf of those affected by Hurricane Harvey and revealed that she was working alongside her BeyGOOD foundation and her pastor Rudy Rasmus to assist as many people affected by the hurricane as possible.
Former rapper-turned-tech whiz Chamillionaire soared on the top of the charts with his laid back H-Town swag. In light of Hurricane Harvey’s devastation in his hometown, Chamillionaire has retweeted posts with helpful information for those in need and also shared a video of several members of the national guard using his Convoz app while on the ground in Houston.
Proud Houston native and acclaimed actor Isaiah Washington reposted an image of his childhood neighborhood drastically flooded but remained optimistic due to the spirit of unity that he believes emerges in times of natural disasters.

R&B songstress Kelly Rowland landed her role in one of the biggest girl groups of all time in Houston, so it was only right that she paid homage to the city in light of the recent devastation. “Houston has and always will be the city that changed my life,” she said in an Instagram post.
Rapper Kirko Bangz created a GoFundMe account raising money for those affected by the hurricane. A fellow Houston native, Bangz has kept his social media platforms up to date with frequent updates regarding shelter and assistance for those displaced.
A proud believer that Texas is the greatest state on earth, rapper Lecrae took to social media sharing a video asking for prayers on behalf of himself and various members of his family.

Acclaimed actress and singer LeToya Luckett got her big break as part of a Houston-based girl group. Proud of the place she calls home, Luckett asked for prayers on behalf many of her family members that still live in Houston while posting tips for those still waiting to be rescued.
Mike Jones’s iced-out grills and Southern charm made him a hit with fans. The H-town rapper posted several photos spreading the word about shelters while providing updates regarding Hurricane Harvey’s status.
From his dazzling grills to his trill swag, Paul Wall screamed Houston style. The prominent rapper revealed that he’d be collecting a wide variety of supplies on behalf of those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

An H-Town gem, Solange issued an uplifting statement to her fellow Houstonians via social media.
There’s no denying it, Trae Tha Truth lives and breathes Houston, Texas. After sharing several posts on how to assist those in need and tips for those waiting to be rescued, the veteran rapper revealed that he himself had to be rescued hours before hopping in a boat to help others in need during an interview with FOX 26.
Rapper Travis Scott paid homage to his hometown by asking for prayers and listing a series of contact numbers for those displaced.

Gospel legend Yolanda Adams shared a social media update revealing that she was fine in spite of the hurricane, but asked for prayers for her fellow Houstonians.
Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei relocated with her family to Houston after suffering from the torrential rains and floods from the highly documented Hurricane Karina in New Orleans. She recently took to Instagram to share her story and extend her prayers and some inspirational words to those who are also suffering this major loss.
Iconic choreographer, television director and producer Debbie Allen was born in Houston, so the recent events occurring in the city hit home for her. She recently took to Twitter to show the visible flood damage done to the theater where she once rehearsed before posting a link where her followers could go to to help those in need.

The Cosby Show star and iconic actress Phylicia Rashad, Allen's sister, is also a proud Houston native known for her theatrical work, effervescent, classic beauty and inspirational public speaking.

Al Green, another Houston native, stands as a member of Texas's ninth district as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Sylvester Turner was elected mayor of Houston on December 13, 2015, and stands as the second African-American mayor of the city. He has been very vocal and active in his efforts to help those members of his city who have been largely affected by Hurricane Harvey.
