Robert Rodriguez: Michael Clarke Duncan Was 'Sweetest, Kindest Guy in the Room'
This coming weekend, audiences will be treated to the last of the summer's tentpole popcorn flicks when Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theaters. Robert Rodriguez is a master of the genre, bringing together the best of graphic novel, pulp action, noir and the genre's most innovative visual effects.
We sat down with the visionary director and his collaborator, comic book legend Frank Miller, to talk about the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 film. The first thing the directors did was pay their respects to the late Michael Clarke Duncan, who starred in the original Sin City. "He was such a big presence, but he was the sweetest, kindest guy in the room," Rodriguez recalled. "He did something actors rarely do, which was thank every person he worked with when [production wrapped]," adds Miller. "He brightened the room."
The duo also reveal to us which one of today's top pop stars — Beyoncé, Rihanna or Lady Gaga — they consider the ultimate dame. "I'd kill for any one of them," quipped Miller.
Plus, we talk to Sin City newcomer Josh Brolin about growing up in the studio system, reuniting on-screen with pals Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson and we even got the handsome actor to relive his awkward high school dating years.
