Jeezy Gets Real on His 8-Year Bout With Depression In New Memoir ‘Adversity For Sale’

“I’m hoping my story can help save lives” said the rapper.

Jeezy is telling his story of living with depression.

On Monday (October 16), the ATL rapper appeared on the Tamron Hall Show, where he opened up about his mental health journey and how he turned his life around.

“My story is a story of a lot of us,” he said of his inspiration behind the book. “I’m hoping that my story can help save lives.”

Jeezy –known to be a powerful street-bred rapper– said along his wellness journey he tapped into a different power to improve his mental health. “I learned that vulnerability is power.”

Before prioritizing his mental well-being, he said, “I thought something was wrong with me” as a result of an impoverished upbringing. Additionally, the “Put On” hitmaker said that prior to his healing journey, he didn’t understand trauma and its various forms.

“As I started to understand and grab tools, I started to become better because I didn’t know I was depressed for eight years of my life straight.”

“You wake up, and you feel like you want to go back to sleep forever,” he shared. During that challenging moment in his life, he began to “lean on my vices.”

He continued, “That’s what street life does to you. When you lose two, three, four hundred people, gone forever, you get numb. And I wasn’t able to get in touch with my emotions, and I was wondering, ‘why?’”

He also reflected on a moment during his younger days when he said, “I was just cold.”

Now, as a product of the work he has put in to take charge of his mental health, Jeezy lives by a recipe for success that includes being goal oriented with a clear vision and a willingness to sacrifice. And at the end of the day, he said, “You gotta believe.”

He said his focus on two jobs these days is “To stay out of prison and to stay alive.”

Jeezy’s book comes at a critical time after he filed for divorce last month from his wife, Jeannie Mai, of two years. They have a 1-year-old daughter named Monaco, whom he seeks shared custody of.

It has also been reported that the exes are still living together, as cited by TMZ.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mai opened up on how their divorce is affecting her. “I’m taking it day by day,” she told the outlet.
