Box Office: Tom Cruise Can't Beat Teen Romance
Teens beat Tom at the box office this weekend.
The Fault in Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, took the top spot at the box office with $48.2 million.
The tear-jerker romance beat Tom Cruise‘s Edge of Tomorrow, which came in third place with $29.1 million.
Angelina Jolie‘s Maleficent grossed another $33.5 million for second place, making its total domestic earnings $127.4 million.
Rounding out the top five were X-Men: Days of Future Past, starring Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, and the Charlize Theron and Seth MacFarlane comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West, which brought in $14.7 million and $7.2 million, respectively.
Next week, 22 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, will attempt to recreate the magic of the first film of the franchise.
