After Sgt Harry Dunn Said Jan. 6 Rioters Called Him N-Word, Capitol Police Claimed He Was Making The Attack ‘All About Race’
Capitol Police officers are expressing their unhappiness over a Black colleague telling a House committee that he was called racial slurs during the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, claiming he’s making the violent incident “all about race.”
Sgt. Harry Dunn testified in July to the January 6 House Select Committee that rioters had called him a “f*****g n*****” when he informed them that he voted for Joe Biden, and made other racist remarks.
Dunn has also made several media appearances where he addressed the alleged racism happening on that day, but also applauded the bravery of the entire police force.
This apparently displeased the officers. According to a feature in The New York Times Magazine, the group of officers have grown “increasingly despondent” since the attack and often eats his lunch alone in his car.
Dunn also reportedly grew depressed after the Capitol riot, which was contrary to his usual extroverted and outgoing nature. He was also bothered by accusations from critics who alleged the police were sympathizers to the riots and “desperately wanted to offer the contrary facts.”
Dunn said during his testimony that he instructed a group of rioters to leave the Capitol and was told “This is our house. Trump invited us here. We're here to stop the steal.”
“Nobody voted for Joe Biden,” Dunn says the rioters told him, claiming former President Donald Trump had actually won the 2020 presidential election.
“Well, I voted for Joe Biden. Does my vote not count? Am I nobody?” Dunn told the protestors, according to the Times.
Dunn also said during his testimony that a woman in a pink MAGA shirt responded: “You hear that, guys, this n***** voted for Joe Biden!” The crowd allegedly subsequently chanted: “Boo! F*****g n*****!”
Dunn noted that several other Black officers had reported similar incidents.
The attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6 happened as the Senate and House of Representatives met to certify Joe Biden’s victory in November 2020’s presidential election.
