Meek Mill Will Star In Sony Pictures' ‘Charm City Kings’

The film is based on a script co-written by ‘Moonlight’s’ Barry Jenkins.

Yet again, Philly MC and Dreamchasers honcho Meek Mill is leveling up his resume in a major way.

  • Meek will make another big screen cameo in the forthcoming feature film, Charm City Kings, that will be released through Sony Pictures this spring.

On Wednesday (Jan. 15), the studio dropped their first official teaser to give fans a first look at the movie. The minute-long trailer introduces viewers to the story of a young boy named Mouse (played by Jahi Di’Allo Winston) who comes under the street-hardened tutelage of Blax (played by Meek). The character is the leader of Midnight Clique, a Baltimore-based dirt bike crew that Mouse aspires to join. Mouse longs to leave his mark on the city as a dirt bike rider but soon finds himself caught up in a violent fast life in the Angel Manuel Soto-directed drama. Alongside Meek and Jahi, Will Catlett, Teyonah Parris, Donielle Tremaine Hansley, and Kezii Curtis round out the rest of the cast.

“I used to dream of doing a bike life movie now look,” Meek announced on Twitter.

  • According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charm City Kings was inspired by Lotfy Nathan’s 2013 documentary of the same name. The script was co-written by award-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins, who previously took home the Best Picture Oscar award for his acclaimed 2016 film, Moonlight. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith were also listed as executive producers alongside James Lassiter in the credits, so rest assured production is in good hands.

Charm City Kings will premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, which kicks off later this month on January 23. Afterward, the film will open in select locations on April 10 followed by a theater-wide release one week later on April 17, according to THR.
