Scarface Gives Positive Update After Undergoing Open-Heart Surgery

The rap legend was recently honored at the 2025 Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas.

About six weeks ago, Scarface shared a photo on Instagram from his hospital bed in the ICU at Houston Methodist Hospital following open-heart surgery. Now, he’s thrilled to update fans on his recovery.

The legendary rapper appeared at the 2025 Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas this past weekend. In a new post, he looked dapper in a tuxedo, smiling as he approached the stage to receive his honor alongside fellow icons like Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee, and Roxanne Shanté. In the caption, Sarface reflected on his journey, saying, “Six weeks ago, I underwent open-heart surgery. To be upright and smiling today shows you that God ain’t nothing to play with. I’m grateful; it could’ve gone either way, yet I’m still alive.”

This isn’t the first time Scarface has dealt with health challenges. In 2021, the 53-year-old underwent a kidney transplant, a procedure made possible by his son, Chris Jordan, who donated his kidney. At the time, Scarface took to Instagram Live to express his appreciation for Chris. “My son saved my life and I can’t say enough about him. That boy saved my life man. And I love him so much. But I always said that shit though. He’s the best son a guy could have. Chris, you ain’t s**t,” the former Geto Boys member laughs. “Don’t make me laugh, Chris. C’mon dawg. ”

He continued, “I’m so proud of you. I love you too much. You saved my muthaf**kin’ life. You low down muthaf**ka. You’re selfish. Won’t let a n**ga die. That n**ga will not let me die. I ain’t gonna tear up in here in front of all these people on Instagram Live.”
