Ava DuVernay to Preview Selma at Urbanworld Film Festival
The Urbanworld Film Festival announced yet another exciting event added to this year's program. Director Ava DuVernay will present a sneak peek of her upcoming civil rights drama, Selma, to lucky festival goers.
DuVernay, whose previous films I Will Follow and Middle of Nowhere both screened at Urbanworld in years past, will participate in the Spotlight Conversation on Directing, where she will share a behind-the-scenes look at Selma with the audience. The event will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at Manhattan's AMC Loews 34th Street 14.
The film, which is already garnering plenty of awards season buzz, chronicles Martin Luther King Jr.'s history-making march from Selma, Alabama, to the state capital in Montgomery in March 1965, the event that paved the road for President Lyndon B. Johnson to sign the Voting Rights Act of 1965. David Oyelowo stars as MLK in an ensemble cast that includes everyone from Cuba Gooding Jr. to Oprah Winfrey.
The Urbanworld Film Festival runs from September 17-21 in New York City. For a complete slate of films and events, click here.
