T.D. Jakes Talking Heaven For Next Movie

T.D. Jakes to produce movie based on true story about a four-year-old's claims of going to heaven.

Following the box office success of Jumping the Broom, which is currently the number one comedy in America, comes more good news for film producer and pastor T.D. Jakes.

Jakes, who has already produced a number of films, has struck a deal to co-produce a new movie with veteran producer and ex-Fox Studio chief Joe Roth, according to the film blog, Shadow and Act.  The film will adapt the best-selling book, Heaven is For Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip To Heaven And Back.

The nonfiction book was written by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent. The book spent weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and has sold 4.5 million copies to date. The book chronicles the story of Burpo’s now 11-year-old son Colton’s near death experience at the age of four. Colton almost died during an emergency appendectomy operation. Once he recovered, he told his family that he, “went to Heaven, actually looking down at the doctors operating on him and his family praying in the waiting room. And he slowly began telling them details about his miscarried sister, and his long-dead grandfather, none of which he should have known about. He then revealed to his family what it was like during his visit in Heaven, before he was sent back to his family.”

The film will be distributed by Tri-Star/Sony Pictures. Sony distributed Jumping the Broom, which grossed $15.2 million at the box office its opening weekend.
