Q-Tip Shares A Heartbreaking Update About His Mother’s Health, And How It’s Changed His Entire Life
Q-Tip may be known as a pioneer in hip-hop music and an acclaimed producer, but he recently revealed that he's taken on one of the most heartbreaking roles of a lifetime.
The beloved lyricist recently announced that he now serves as his mother's caregiver after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Tip explained how he planned to use his Beats 1 show "Abstract Radio" to honor his beloved mother. "This weekend on Abstract Radio, I’ll be doing a special show dedicated to my mother,” he said in a video. “It’s her birthday on Dec. 9. Shouts out to all the sag’s out there. My mother suffers with dementia and Alzheimer’s."
Going into more detail about his plans, Q-Tip continued, "So I’m going to be playing a lot of her favorite songs. The dedication is not only to my mother, but all those out there who suffer with dementia and the families who have to deal with or take care of a loved one who suffers with dementia."
Opening up about his experience as a caregiver and how inspirational his journey has been, he added, "I take care of my mother and being able to wake up with her every day and take care of her has been eye-opening and inspirational.So I hope that this show is inspirational to you. Mom, I love you so much and this show is not enough to express that.”
Q-Tip's dedication episode of "Abstract Radio" is set to hit Beats 1 on Friday (Dec. 7) at 9 pm.
