5 Comedians from 'ComicView': Where Are They Now?

With the iconic standup comedy series returning to BET+, we examined some of the show's legacy stars and their current positions.

BET's ComicView debuted in 1992, bringing the Black comedy nightclub standup style to cable audiences. Although it ended its previous run sixteen years ago, it returns this week with host Mike Epps and executive producer Kevin Hart. Let's take a look back at some of its most iconic stars and where they are now.

  • Sommore (Host, 1995; 2014)

  • Cedric the Entertainer (Host, 1994)

Cedric Antonio Kyles has maintained a steady career since hosting Comicview. He is best known as an Original King of Comedy and sidekick to Vice Principal Steve Hightower on all six seasons of The Steve Harvey Show. Cedric might be one of the most accessible comedians on this list because he keeps many of his roles family-friendly. He's portrayed more than one reverend, the opinionated Eddie in the Barbershop series, and voiced Maurice the Lemur in the Madagascar series.

Since starring as Lovita Jenkins’ "Ceddy Bear", he's taken on main sitcom roles like The Soul Man, The Last OG and CBS's The Neighborhood, which is in its sixth season.

  • Sheryl Underwood (Host, 2005)

Sommore was not the only female comedian to host the show. Sheryl Underwood also took on those duties in 2005.

Underwood is somewhat of a controversial figure in the comedy world. She is a registered Republican, although she's distanced herself from the party's approach in recent years. She also famously alleged that Laura Hayes, Adele Givens, and Sommore talked trash about her without knowing she was on a call, which led to Underwood refusing to take part as Mo'Nique's replacement on the Queens of Comedy tour.

Underwood became a co-host of CBS's The Talk in its second season and is currently its longest-running co-host.

  • Katt Williams (2005)

By the time Katt Williams made his 2005 appearance on Comicview, he'd already starred as a pimp named "Money Mike" in Friday After Next. Later, he voiced "A Pimp Named Slickback" in The Boondocks. He would go on to have very popular standup specials such as The Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1 and It's Pimpin' Pimpin'.

Williams remains a pop culture fixture mostly due to some legendary interviews. One was his 2018 appearance on Frank and Wanda in the Morning; we all know how that turned out. More recently, he made headlines for his appearance on Club Shay Shay, an episode that host Shannon Sharpe claims made him more money than any year in the NFL.

  • Kevin Hart (Host, 2008)

Kevin Hart is one of the biggest stars in America and was already on his way to being fully mainstream when he hosted the show in 2008. Since his Comicview stint, he stumbled on a couple of franchises like Jumaji and The Secret Life of Pets. He was also the star of BET's Real Husbands of Hollywood. This is but a tiny part of his resumé.

Where is he now? Everywhere. He is due to star in F Gary Gray's upcoming heist comedy Lift as well as Eli Roth's sci-fi action comedy Borderlands

    ComicView is now on BET+.
