Whoopi Goldberg Says Lizzo Is Interested In Joining ‘Sister Act 3’ And How Keke Palmer Doesn’t Need Her Help In Securing A Role In The Film
Whoopi Goldberg continues to have good “luck” with movie roles as she’s set to star in the AppleTV+ film Luck, which follows Sam Greenfield (Eva Noblezada), the unluckiest person in the world, when she stumbles into the never-before-seen Land of Luck and sets out on a quest to bring some good luck home for her best friend Hazel (Adelynn Spoon). However, with humans not allowed in the Land of Luck, her only chance is to team up with the magical creatures who live there to do it.
Goldberg plays The Captain, the Land of Luck’s head of security. The EGOT actress chatted with BET.com about the film, her favorite part about animation, and how Keke Palmer “doesn’t need” her help in securing a role in the upcoming Sister Act sequel.
BET.com: You have such an iconic voice, we love that you star in the Apple+ animated adventure “Luck”- what’s your favorite thing about animation?
Whoopi Goldberg: I don’t ever have to put clothes on [laughs]. People don’t know what I’m wearing … or not wearing when voice acting.
BET.com: This film is all about “luck”. We know how accomplished you are, but is there a moment you look back and say “that was pure luck”?
Goldberg: Yeah, most of my life. Listen, I can point to 10 different things in my life . Who knows. What looks like bad luck suddenly gets up to stretch and it’s really good luck — you didn’t recognize it. Luck is with us and it's always changing because that’s what luck does.
BET.com: In addition to this film, fans are also really excited about Sister Act 3 and Keke Palmer mentioned that she wanted to join the cast–do you think she may get lucky in snagging a potential role in the film?
Goldberg: Here’s the deal — there are about nine spectacular people who have said over the past couple of years they would like to join the cast like Lizzo — just great people. I would like for them all to be a part of it so we’ll need to see what happens and we’ll find out. Keke [Palmer] really doesn’t need me — I know she has the new Jordan Peele film and it’s supposed to be off the hook.
Make your weekend filled with luck and watch Goldberg’s new film Luck releasing on AppleTV+ on August 5th.
