Rapper Kid Creole Sentenced To Prison For Killing A Homeless Man
Rapper Kid Creole, a former member of the legendary hip-hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, has been sentenced for killing a homeless man.
Last month, Creole, real name Nathaniel Glover, was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter for fatally stabbing a man named John Jolly on August 1, 2017. According to PEOPLE, the 62-year-old was sentenced to 16 years.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement, “Mr. Jolly's death was devastating to his family and those who knew him. Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve."
Bragg also added. "This case makes clear that if you commit violent crime, we will hold you accountable, and I thank our team for their hard work achieving justice in this matter."
Glover reportedly got into an altercation with Jolly after suspecting that Jolly was making sexual advances at him.
The New York Daily News stated that Jolly was living in a homeless shelter in NYC. According to state corrections records, he served five years in prison for the 1997 assault and rape of a 42-year-old woman and was registered as a level 2 sex offender.
Prior to his run-in with Glover, witnesses noted that Jolly was intoxicated during the time of the altercation, which may explain why bystanders who phoned the police originally thought he had fainted, law officials told NY Daily News. Once authorities arrived and found the stab wounds in Jolly’s chest, he was immediately sent to Bellevue Hospital Center. Jolly succumbed to the injuries at the hospital and Glover was arrested.
