Drake Slams AI Rapping Ice Spice’s 'Munch' in His Voice: 'This Is the Final Straw'
Grammy Award-winning rapper Drake sent a strong message to those behind a recent video of Artificial Intelligence (AI) program rapping Ice Spice’s breakthrough song “Munch” in his voice.
Over the weekend, the Canadian-born entertainer took to his Instagram Stories in a since-deleted post where he addressed the viral cover song, stating: “This is the final straw AI.”
In the audio, fans could hear what seemingly sounds like Drake rapping the popular lyrics, "B-tches ain't bad, let's keep it a bean / Know they be mad that I be on the scene / Ass too fat, can't fit in no jeans / You was my stitch, but it's not what it seems."
The “Rich Flex” emcee’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the use of AI to copy people’s voices. Universal Music Group recently sent a request to streaming sites like Spotify and Apple Music asking them to block AI companies from using its music with the technology.
In a statement to the Financial Times, a representative for UMG addressed the matter stating,
"We have a moral and commercial responsibility to our artists to work to prevent the unauthorized use of their music and to stop platforms from ingesting content that violates the rights of artists and other creators.”
They added, “We expect our platform partners will want to prevent their services from being used in ways that harm artists.”
Drake isn’t the only victim of AI technology. Artists like Travis Scott have had their voices used to sing Pop Smoke’s “For the Night,” and Kanye West, whose voice was used to sing Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”
