Tamron Hall Addresses Criticism Of Her Interracial Marriage, Says 'Black Men Did Not Fail' Her
It’s been two years since Tamron Hall decided to leave the TODAY show. Since her departure, she’s gotten married, birthed a beautiful baby boy named Moses, and now she’s got her own daytime talk show airing.
After marrying a Caucasian man, interracial marriage is a topic the 48-year-old mother is ready to jump into and bring to the forefront.
During an interview with TheYBF, she shared her experience and perspective as a Black woman dating a white male.
“I never imagined my husband would be White. I grew up in Texas in a predominately Black neighborhood. I’ve dated almost exclusively men of color, Black men. He just so happened to be the person I fell in love with.”
For those who thought that the Texas native settled for a White man after a Black man failed her, they are completely wrong. “In no way did marrying my husband mean that Black men had failed me,” she said. “I was raised by an unapologetic Black man who served in this country’s army for 30 years. That’s who I am. That’s the fiber of who I am.”
Concerning repercussions marrying outside her race, the former TODAY Show host says she didn’t want her husband to be hurt or ridiculed. “There was a worry in the sense of I didn’t want him ridiculed or hurt and I didn’t want anyone feeling bad about themselves,” she said. “As I pointed out, our president [Obama] is a product of an interracial relationship. It’s labels that we're trying to break down on the show and that we can bring in conversations that are really happening.”
Hall doesn’t want to talk from only her perspective as a Black woman in an interracial relationship -- she’s set to talk about it from all angles, because women from other races who date outside their race receive constant backlash as well.
”I have a colleague who’s Asian and she said every time she goes out with a White man somebody [thinks] she’s a gold digger,” Tamron said on a conference call to reporters. “I’ve had a couple of people tell me my son is White and I am Black. What does that mean?” she questioned. “Barack Obama was our first Black president. His mother is White. Somehow my son is White, but he has a Black mother? So, I’m willing to talk about those things in very real terms.”
