'I Got Hit By A Bus And The Hospital Gave Me Advil’ Woman Tweets About Health Care Discrimination

It was all centered around a report that Black women are far less likely to be believed about pain symptoms they describe.

A Black woman’s tweet is sparking some major conversation over how Black women are not believed by medical professionals about physical pain they describe.

  • Danielle Radford, a comedian, tweeted that she was hit by a bus, was knocked out and suffered a concussion a while back. She claims she was only prescribed Advil to deal with the presumably horrible pain.

  • She also shared a picture of the immediate aftermath of the horrific incident

While hundreds of women have their own personal stories, there’s actually data to back up their claims. The Washington Post reports that a 2000 study out of Emory University found that at a hospital emergency department in Atlanta, 74 percent of white patients with bone fractures were given painkillers compared with 50 percent of Black patients.

They also highlighted a 2007 study, which found that physicians were more likely to underestimate the pain of Black patients compared with other patients.
