Dave Chappelle Booed by Fans at Detroit Show
Heckling, booing and meltdowns — oh, my. Dave Chappelle's comeback tour doesn't seem like it turned out the way the comedy icon would have hoped. After finding himself on the recieving end of a banana peel in Santa Fe and getting testy with the audience in Hartford, Chappelle was straight up booed during his set in Detroit on Friday night.
According to TMZ, the audience found Chappelle to be too drunk and possibly high to land those punchlines. "A seemingly wasted Chappelle took the stage an hour late...and told very few jokes," the site reports. "Instead, he sat quietly smoking, rambling, and slurring his speech."
Maybe the reclusive comedy icon just needed to recharge his batteries after reportedly slaying at his Thursday night show? Either way, his rep knew better than to deny the reports (damn smartphones). Instead, she offered a positive spin: “Thursday was definitely not his best set. On the flip side, the incident inspired some additional sharp-witted material.”
