The NBA Slam Dunk Contest returns to the Bay Area for the first time in 25 years on Saturday, February 15 on TNT as part of 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend at San Francisco's Chase Center. In those 25 years we’ve seen it all from elbows in rims to fibs from LeBron James to mascots on hoverboards. This year will see two-time defending champion Mac McClung compete against rising stars Stephon Castle (Spurs), Matas Buzelis (Bulls), and Andre Jackson Jr. (Bucks). McClung, a G League sensation who seemingly only pops out once every February like a groundhog to win dunk contests, aims to make history as the first three-peat winner in the event’s 40-year history, surpassing Nate Robinson’s three (non-consecutive) titles. And for the first time you’ll get a chance to be a judge this year, as the NBA introduces a fan vote contributing as the “fifth judge” to go along with judges Baron Davis, Kevin Garnett, Tracy McGrady, and Jason Richardson.

In a dunk era defined by different versions of J.R. Rider’s “East Bay Funk Dunk,” we’re commemorating the contest’s return to the Bay with a look back at the last 25 years—every dunk contest since the turn of the millennium.
